What is The Barn School?
The Barn School is a community-centered equine program designed to make horses, horsemanship, and the opportunities they create more accessible. Through riding, camps, school and community partnerships, equine-assisted programs, tourism, and work experience, we create multiple pathways into the horse world while also strengthening the wider community through collaboration, shared audiences, referrals, and local economic activity. Along the way, participants build practical skills in communication, responsibility, problem-solving, confidence, leadership, and self-awareness skills that can carry into relationships, school, work, and everyday life.
What REACH means at The Barn School
RESPONSIBILITY
Caring for a horse means being responsible for something beyond ourselves. Through daily care, preparation, safety, and attention to each horse’s needs, participants experience what it means to be dependable and to have their choices matter.
EXPERIENCE
Some things are best learned by doing. Through hands-on experiences with horses, participants practice communication, problem-solving, patience, and confidence while developing skills that grow through experience rather than instruction alone.
ACCESS
The world of horses should be within reach for everyone. Through varied programs, partnerships, and financial support, Barn School creates opportunities for people to participate regardless of income, background, circumstance, or previous experience.
CONNECTION
Horses invite us into connection—with ourselves, other people, animals, and the outdoors. Through shared experiences and relationships, Barn School creates space for people to feel present, understood, connected, and part of something larger.
HORSEMANSHIP
Horsemanship is learning to understand the horse, not simply learning to ride. Through observation, communication, groundwork, and time in the saddle, participants develop skills in awareness, patience, and communication that extend far beyond the barn.
